SPAIN COMES TO PETOSKEY: A WINEMAKER’S DINNER

In town for one night only, Palette Bistro will host Bodega Numanthia winemaker Daniel del Rio from Toro, Spain, on Thursday, April 5 at 6:30pm. Bodega Numanthia’s wines consistently receive top ratings at 90 points and higher from Wine Enthusiast, Wine Spectator, and James Suckling.

“We are thrilled to bring Daniel del Rio to Petoskey,” explains Shannon Humm, Certified Sommelier at Palette Bistro. “This is a great opportunity to learn about award-winning Spanish wines.”

Chef Jeremy Pomeroy has paired several Spanish tapas-style courses with these incredible red Toro wines.

To start on a sparkling note, Palette will pour Moet-Chandon Champagne NV with the first course: Oysters and White Gazpacho — oyster, caper, orange, manzanilla olive, gazpacho, garlic, Marcona almond, grape, and bread. The courses to follow include:

  • 2nd Course: Pouring 2014 Termes (90 WS 94 JS) paired with Tuna Montadito & Ensalada — tuna montadito, sesame crusted tuna, roasted leeks, romesco, toast, ensalada, serrano ham, melon ribbons, saffron oil, mint vinegar
  • 3rd Course: Pouring 2013 Numanthia (95 WS 96 JS) paired with Chicken Wing Confit & Caramelized Tomato — chicken wing confit, slow cooked wing, pimento, white bean puree, cucumber-olive-mint salsa caramelized tomato, slow roasted tomato, pine nuts, cabrales bleu cheese, sherry vinegar
  • 4th Course: Pouring 2012 Termanthia (95 WS 95 WE) paired with Lamb Ribs & Squid — lamb ribs, cocoa-cumin crusted riblets, sweet patatas bravas, chipotle aioli, squid, caramelized onion & fennel, black pepper- albarino butter sauce
  • 5th Course: Housemade yogurt ice cream, blood orange, vanilla

“This winemaker dinner is a perfect way to celebrate spring with tapas, champagne and world-renowned Bodega Numanthia wines,” adds Humm.
