PETOSKEY — This December, patrons of Petoskey District Library contributed funds to “Food for Friends” in support the Women’s Resource Center Harvest Food Drive.
Because of the pandemic, the resource center requested gift cards and financial contributions for its Safe Home. With the funds collected, the library purchased gift cards to downtown Petoskey restaurants, which have faced many challenges this year as well.
The library was able to purchase $760 in gift cards to the following downtown restaurants: Beards Brewery, City Park Grill, Jose’s Authentic Mexican Restaurant, Julienne Tomatoes, Lost Village Pierogi, Mighty Fine Pizza, Mitchell Street Pub, Noggin Room, Palette Bistro, Roast and Toast, Sam’s Graces, Tap 30, and Thai Orchid.
All of the gift cards went to the Women’s Resource Center for their Harvest Food Drive. The food drive looked a little different this year. Instead of collecting canned goods and paper products, gift cards and financial contributions were made to help make a positive difference for those who seek refuge from domestic abuse.
“Purchasing gift cards from our downtown restaurants is a great way to support them during these trying times, plus give back to the Women’s Resource Center and families in need at the same time”, said Adult Services Librarian Mary Beauchamp in a press release.
