Restaurant Group to Host Benefits for Community Organization & Nurses
In 2017, Wineguys Restaurant Group (owners of City Park Grill, Palette Bistro, Roast & Toast and Wineguys Catering in Petoskey) started Eating for Others. The goal: recognize deserving local non-profit organizations with a 10% donation from dining sales on designated days.
“The annual events gained momentum,” shares Wineguys partner Bob Keedy, “though COVID restrictions required us to cancel in 2020. This year, we are proud to reinitiate the Eating for Others tradition. It gives all of us an opportunity to recognize those who are doing great work in our communities.”
2021 Eating for Others events:
For the full day, 10% of sales from both Roast & Toast locations will benefit Groundwork Center for Resilient Communities. Additionally, Roast & Toast will offer an Eating for Others Feature: Half Sandwich, Bowl of Soup, plus Soda or Brewed Coffee for $11.95.
Founded in 1995, Groundwork focuses on locally based solutions that create a clean environment, strong economy and healthy community. Programs include climate and clean energy projects, farm-to-school support, community design and more. Consistently, the Wineguys Restaurant Group business model emphasizes on minimizing carbon footprint while supporting the community at large, ultimately helping the planet. “We planned our business model to co-exist with our environmental commitment,” Wineguys partner Mary Keedy. “We want to do whatever we can to accommodate our patrons while minimizing environmental impact and supporting our community,” Mary adds. Roast & Toast, for example, regularly donates soup and coffee to Brother Dan’s Food Pantry. And, the group as a whole has shifted to post-consumer and recyclable take-out containers at each restaurant and eliminated straws at Palette Bistro, for example, all in addition to extensive recycling and composting efforts.
In lieu of a weekday dine-in benefit, City Park Grill and Palette Bistro colleagues wanted to recognize a community group directly. “Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have consistently felt fortunate to have compassionate healthcare at our doorstep,” explains City Park Grill General Manager Patrick Faylor. “This year, we are honoring McLaren Northern Michigan hospital nurses.” A $25 coupon will be presented to each hospital nurse to use for lunch or dinner at City Park Grill and Palette Bistro from Tuesday, May 18 – Tuesday, May 25. “We look forward to seeing nurses at our City Park and Palette restaurants for well-deserved R&R.”
“What an amazing gesture from Wineguys Restaurant Group, especially during National Nurses Month,” shares Jennifer Woods, Vice President of Patient Care Services & Chief Nursing Officer at McLaren Northern Michigan. “This generosity is yet another example of how a very influential member of our business community recognizes how dedicated and committed our nurses are to northern Michigan patients.”
